About This Site

Top Dog Boarding & Pet Care covers the gear that keeps a busy dog household running: crates and kennels, elevated beds, pet gates and exercise panels, gravity waterers, and the enzyme cleaners that deal with the accidents. Every piece is written from years of boarding other people's dogs at home, so the focus is on what holds up, what is easy to clean, and what actually keeps dogs calm and safe.

Dog Safety

Nothing on this site is veterinary advice. If a dog stops eating or drinking, has vomiting or diarrhea that lasts, limps, or seems unusually lethargic, call your veterinarian rather than relying on gear.

Remove collars, tags and harnesses before crating a dog, since they can snag on wire and cause strangulation. Size the crate so the dog can stand, turn and lie flat, and never leave a dog crated for longer than its age and bladder allow. Check crate latches, panel clips and gate hinges regularly for bent wire or broken pieces that could pinch or trap a paw.

Pet gates and exercise panels are containment aids, not a substitute for supervision. Strong or determined dogs can push, climb or chew through lighter gates, and gates should never be used at the top of stairs unless the maker rates them for it.

Elevated beds, bowls and waterers must sit on a stable, level surface out of direct sun. Check water levels and clean dispensers often, especially in heat or with several dogs sharing. Keep cleaning products, including enzyme cleaners, stored out of reach, follow the label, and let treated areas dry before dogs return. Boarding other people's dogs may require a local license, insurance and proof of vaccinations; check your local rules.
